② Landform

 Facing the Sea of Japan to the north, with gentle ridges of the Chūgoku Mountains to the south.
 The Abu River runs through the former castle town and into the sea.
 Coastal highlights include Mt. Kasayama and the Susa Hornfels—distinct landscapes formed by volcanic and sedimentary rocks.
 Inland areas feature plateaus and paddies; the Abu district blends mountains and rivers.

 Key pillars are fisheries, tourism, and agro-forestry. Known for rich offshore fishing grounds and traditional crafts such as Hagi ware.
Local specialties
