A coastal city on the Seto Inland Sea in eastern Yamaguchi Prefecture—industry meets ocean. With a warm, sunny climate, it hosts coastal industries such as shipbuilding and chemicals alongside the natural shores of Kasado Island.

Facing the Seto Inland Sea, the city features inlets and low hills around Kasado Bay.
Kasado Island extends from the east and is linked to the mainland by a sea bridge.
Much of the area consists of gentle hills and marine terraces with residential districts.
A warm climate and the proximity of sea and mountains typify the Setouchi landscape.
③ Industry
A coastal industrial cluster (shipbuilding, chemicals, machinery) lines the waterfront, while commerce and services spread inland. Marine leisure and camping on Kasado Island are popular.

Known since old times as a “stargazing town,” with legends of seven stars.

On Kasado Island, sea rituals give thanks for maritime bounty.

- Hoshifurusato Ondo: A modern folk song themed on the city’s star legend.
- Hanaoka Shishi-mai (lion dance): A vigorous dance offered at autumn festivals.
